Information on voting abroad

VOTE!

The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) protects your rights to vote for federal offices as a U.S. Citizens residing overseas. It is your RIGHT to Vote, please EXERCISE that right.

The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) maintains a website with all the resources and information you need to register to vote. There is a page specifically for Overseas Citizens Voters.

The Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) can be completed and submitted electronically. It can also be downloaded, completed and returned by mail, email or fax. A downloadable version of the FPCA is available in the French language.

The FVAP maintains an up to date information database for each states specific local voting requirements. When you complete the FPCA it will be sent to the County Election Officials based on the U.S. address you provide. IF you are eligible to vote in local elections (each county has their own voting guidelines) you will be sent the appropriate ballots.

The Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) is your “Back-up” ballot in the event you do not receive your ballot in time or did not register in time to receive a ballot. The FWAB process can be started here. The FWAB is completed partially online then it must be printed, signed and returned by mail, email or FAX.

When to request a ballot? It is recommended that you submit a new FPCA every January and each time you move. FPCA’s should be sent in at least 90 days before the election in which you want to vote.

Returning your Ballot in France. The latest guidance received from the American Citizens Services (ACS) Office at the Embassy in Paris is that anyone can purchase a “timbre violet” (international) for 2.25€ and post to the United States up to 20 grams (5 sheets of paper is 20g).

In Paris, Marseille and Strasbourg, ballots may be mailed at the Embassy or Consulates:

*The US Postage Paid mailing label is the last page of the FWAB download.

If your ballot is returned by the French Post please speak up so we can notify the ACS Office at the Embassy.
